ARTICLE VII. THE DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS and OTHER EMPLOYEES. Section 1. The Director of Religious Affairs. The Board of Trustees shall hire a Director of Religious Affairs for the ICN, the Imam, to oversee the religious activities of the ICN. The Board of Trustees shall set out in writing the scope of the Imam’s duties and responsibilities, and the Imam shall be entitled to exercise such authority as is delegated by the Board of Trustees from time to time. The Imam shall make a report to the Board of Trustees on the status of the religious affairs of the ICN at each regular meeting of the Board of Trustees and at such other times as the Board of Trustees may request. The Iman shall act as an advisor to the Board of Trustees to assure that the Shariah compliant decisions are made to the best of the Trustees’ abilities. The Iman shall not be a voting member of the Board of Trustees. However, the Iman shall, in addition to his report to the Board of Trustees, be available for consultation with the Trustees during any meeting of the Board. Section 2. Qualifications of the Director of Religious Affairs. The Imam shall possess the following qualifications: fine character, Islamic education, a spiritual reputation, and a genuine dedication for the advancement of the teachings and principles of Islam in accordance with the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Section 3. Compensation. The Board of Trustees shall, from time to time, determine the compensation to be paid to the Imam for his services to the ICN. Section 4. Other Employees. The Board of Trustees may hire other employees, including but not limited to an assistant Imam or an office manager, as it determines is in the best interest of the ICN. The Board of Trustees shall determine the scope of the duties of such employee and the compensation to be paid to such employee. Section 5. Removal. The Board of Trustees, in its sole discretion, may remove the Imam by a majority vote of the Trustees. The President of the ICN may remove any other employee of the ICN, provided that the President shall report each removal under this section to the Board of Trustees.
